Sarah’s Story:
How one carer brought organisation and peace of mind to a complex caring role.
Caring often involves far more coordination than people realise. For Sarah, supporting her adult son means working closely with a team of care staff, managing practical responsibilities, and balancing work alongside caring. In this blog, Sarah shares how using Jointly has helped her feel more organised, connected and reassured in her caring role.
A caring role with many moving parts
Sarah is a parent carer to her adult son, who has Cerebral Palsy and multiple learning disabilities. Although he now lives in his own supported living apartment just five minutes from her home, Sarah remains closely involved in his care. Like many parent carers, her role has evolved over time, but her commitment to supporting her son remains constant.
Today, a team of seven to eight staff help support her son day to day, and Sarah works closely with them to ensure everything runs smoothly. Alongside coordinating the team, she also manages her son’s finances and household arrangements, all while working part time as an administrator and co-trainer in the health and social care sector.
The hidden workload behind caring
Caring often involves more than people expect. As well as providing emotional support and staying involved in her son’s life, Sarah manages a range of practical responsibilities behind the scenes.
She estimates that the administrative side of caring can take around 14 hours a week. This includes organising rotas, keeping track of information, and communicating with the wider team. When her son is unwell or additional support is needed, those hours can quickly increase.
Despite these demands, Sarah remains committed to making sure her son has the best possible support. Like many carers, she has developed strong organisational skills and a deep understanding of how to keep everything running effectively.
Discovering Jointly and transforming care coordination
When Sarah first came across Jointly, she was curious to see whether it could help simplify some of the day-to-day coordination involved in her son’s care.
Once she began using the app, she quickly realised how helpful it could be. Instead of juggling information across different systems, everything could be recorded and shared in one place. This made it much easier for the whole team to stay connected and up to date.
For Sarah, this meant fewer worries about whether information had been passed on or tasks had been completed. Having everything organised in one central space helped her feel more confident that the team were working together effectively.
Feeling more reassured
One of the biggest benefits for Sarah has been the reassurance Jointly provides. Being able to check updates wherever she is, and knowing that communication is recorded clearly, has made a real difference.
The visibility the app provides means she can easily see what is happening in her son’s home and stay connected with his support team. For Sarah, this brings a strong sense of reassurance that her son is safe, supported, and that important details are not being missed.
This has helped reduce stress and given her a greater sense of control over what can often be a complex caring situation.
What makes Jointly work for her
When asked which features help her most, Sarah points to the calendar and app notifications. These tools help the whole team stay aligned and ensure important tasks are not forgotten.
For her son’s support team, having a shared space to record and check information has also made daily care more consistent.
One member of the care team shared:
“Jointly is very reliable. All the care is organised and all the team can look at information anywhere. Medication is a particularly useful feature.”
Another team member explained:
“I feel more organised with Jointly. I record things like medication, bowel movements or handover information. The whole team knows what has been done in a day.”
Looking ahead
Sarah and her son’s support team plan to continue using Jointly because, in her words, “it works well.”
She describes her overall experience as extremely positive. Having a tool that helps organise information, improve communication and bring everyone together has made a meaningful difference to her caring role.
For Sarah, it is not just about staying organised. It is about feeling reassured, supported and confident that her son’s care is running smoothly.
Sarah’s story shows how the right tools and support can make a real difference, helping carers feel more organised, connected and reassured in their caring role.
